Pay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God, politics and religion do not mix
*Is it wrong to criticise the govt?*
A lot of Christians have a wrong understanding of what it means to submit to the govt. And in Singapore, in particular, some Christians have equated govt = PAP*, which is erroneous. The govt is formed by those people who have been elected and whose political party has won the most seats. So it can be any party, not necessarily PAP. *Remember, the govt and the ruling party are not synonymous.*
Paul said, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). So Christ is supposed to be our model. In Luke 13:32, Jesus said:
_”Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course.”_
He referred to King Herod as a fox. This term wasn’t exactly complimentary. In fact, this was a critical term. So, did Jesus sin by not being submissive to authority? I don’t think so. If it wasn’t wrong for Jesus to criticise Herod, then it’s not wrong for us to criticise the govt.
I think some Christians are mixing up 2 different issues. All of us are supposed to submit to our govt. The Bible is very clear about this. Submission to the govt means we obey the laws. Criticising the govt does not mean that we will not submit to the govt. God expects us to submit to all authorities, including our religious authorities. And Jesus was fully aware of this. However, if you read Matthew 23, Jesus had very harsh words for the religious leaders during His time. He rebuked them publicly. He had never rebuked anyone that way, not even the woman caught in adultery.
Did Jesus have double standards? And what if you had been in the crowd that heard Jesus rebuking the religious leaders? Would you go up to Him and tell Him that He’s not supposed to speak that way about the religious leaders?
You need to ask why did Jesus rebuke the religious leaders the way He did? You want to know why? It’s because of their hypocrisy. They were teachers of the Law. So they know the Law. And they expected people to live according to the Law but they themselves were not obeying the Law and were unrepentant. Instead, outwardly they try to appear to be holy, holy, such as standing at street corners to pray (Matthew 6:5). On top of that they accused Jesus of casting out demons through the power of the devil. And even after Jesus proved to them that His power is not from the devil but from God (Matthew 12:26), they were unrepentant.
So He had no choice but to rebuke them publicly. His intention was to wake them up so that they would repent. This was Jesus’s last opportunity to rebuke them. He was going to the cross in a few days time. Do you realise that after His resurrection, Jesus did not confront the Pharisees anymore? He had said all that He wanted to say to them loud and clear. Jesus wasn’t rebellious. He was still submissive to authorities.
Apart from Jesus, do we have examples of godly people who criticised the govt/king? Of course. Look at 1 Kings 13:1-10. A prophet spoke against Jereboam, who was the king of Israel then, because of the evil that he did. John the Baptist criticised King Herod for taking his brother’s wife and that caused him his head (Mark 6:14-29).
For the last 2 examples that I mentioned, both that prophet and John the Baptist were doing those kings favours by pointing out their wrong so that they could have opportunities to repent. In fact, if we are loyal citizens, we should speak up when our govt is doing the wrong thing. James 4:17 tells us:
_So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin._
We’re all familiar with the story of the emperor who wore no clothes. If the king or govt of your nation is/are not wearing any clothes, what should you do? If you are truly loyal to your nation, you should tell him/them and not simply keep quiet. *In fact, if you fail to do so you’re actually being irresponsible and are a disloyal citizen.*
Are there biblical examples of people who failed to submit to govt or authorities? Of course. Korah together with Dathan and Abiram led a rebellion against Moses and Aaron. They managed to round up a total of 250 chiefs, well-known men, to rebel against Moses and Aaron. God intervene and caused the ground to split open beneath their feet swallowing Dathan and Abiram, their families, anyone associated with Korah, and all their possessions. God also sent fire from heaven to consume the 250 chiefs (Numbers 16:1-35).
I’m not suggesting that you criticise the govt over every little thing. That would be petty and you would be quarrelsome.
What if you want to stand for election as an opposition MP? How then do you carry out your campaign? Surely you are not going to tell your voters, “Please submit to the govt and vote for them.” Of course, you need to point out govt policies that you think are wrong or that you don’t agree with. And you need to explain why you don’t agree. So you are in fact criticising the govt. Otherwise how do you carry out your campaign? But it’s important that you criticise the policies not the person.
What about voting in a General Election? You have a duty to vote wisely and responsibly (Colossians 3:17). Do not vote for someone who lacks accountability and who changes the law to cover up their mistakes and who are only interested in preserving their self-interests. But vote for someone who has the interests of the nation at heart and who is willing to speak up in Parliament on your behalf or on behalf of the nation.
So you need to differentiate between criticism and submission. They are 2 different issues. Don’t accept or reject what I say. Pray and read the Scripture passages mentioned here and let God speak to you.

Do you like to marry a man who’s still dependent to his daddy and mommy – financially, mentally, and emotionally? Do you like to live in the house of your husband’s parents? Do you want a husband who cannot make a decision without authorization from his parents? Well, the Bible really has a good reason why it wants the husband and wife to be independent from their parents.
A responsible husband doesn’t need to be a millionaire to house his wife and children separately from his parents. But what it takes is his love, courage, and determination to provide you the freedom you and your family deserve.
2. He is loving and caring.
“Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. – 1 Corinthians 7:3 (NKJV)
Needless to explain further, you don’t want to spend the rest of your life loving someone who doesn’t truly love you in return, right?
3. He’s loyal and he doesn’t cheat.
“The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.” 1 Corinthians 7:4 (NIV)
In reality, a loyal person who doesn’t have any history of cheating will not fill your mind with doubts and jealousy but with peace of mind. And with peace of mind, you can spend your married life with more productive activities that your family can enjoy. Also, you won’t like the idea of surrendering your body solely to your husband, while he’s sharing his body to other women out there. That would be so unfair, right?
4. He is trustworthy, responsible, and reliable.
“Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.” – Ephesians 5:22-23 (NIV)
The Bible wants the wife to submit to her husband so that the latter can rightfully lead her. But what if the guy you will marry is irresponsible and unreliable? Would you like yourself and your children to be led by him? The passage above clearly wants women to find a man who can be a good leader – someone who will lead them to a good and blissful life.
5. He knows how to love and take care of himself.
“In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.” – Ephesians 5:28 (NIV)
A person who cannot love himself can hardly love others. If your future husband doesn’t know how to take care of his own health, how can he take care of yours and your children? If he can easily hurt himself, can you expect him to not also hurt you?
6. He has trust and confidence in you.
“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.” – Proverbs 31:10-11
Being married should not stop you from growing as a woman, a career woman, a business woman, or any better version of yourself you want to be. That is why you need a husband who will trust your decisions and actions that will bring growth not only to you but also to your husband and the whole family.
An ideal husband is like a great king. He’s a great leader but he also listens, considers, and trusts the will of his queen.
7. He appreciates you.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:” – Proverbs 31:28 (NIV)
A husband who doesn’t appreciate your efforts and value your accomplishments will always make you down and cause you to lose self-confidence and self-respect. Hence, find a man who will raise you up rather than pull you down.
8. He’s calm and patient.
“Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared. – Proverbs 22:24-25 (NIV)
If you’re dreaming to have a happy family living in a peaceful home, then you should avoid a bad-tempered guy. No matter how patient you are, if you will always mix with a wrathful person, you might as well become irritable and your home will be filled with conflicts and fighting.
9. He’s a good role model.
“Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV)
Do you think you can play like a hero or a saviour? Do you think you can just marry a bad person then try to transform him into a better one? Well, your super powers might just be exhausted yet your man may not change a bit. And the worst is, instead of changing your future husband into a good one, it’s you who might be transformed into a worse one due to frustration and disappointment.
You have been warned. So find a man who will nurture your good character, not someone who will destroy it.
10. He’s not a glutton and a drunkard.
“Do not mix with winebibbers, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.” – Proverbs 23:20-21 (NKJV)
Drunkenness and gluttony will not only suck out your husband’s money but will also make his body and mind unhealthy. If you’re a practical woman, you will marry a guy who knows how to manage both his financial and health condition. You will find someone who has self-discipline, not someone who will spend his money on alcoholic drinks rather than spending it on your children’s educational plan.
11. He has wisdom.
“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” – Proverbs 13:20 (NIV)
Wisdom is the ability to discern what’s right from what’s wrong, and actually follow the first. If your potential guy thinks that lying, cheating, and being irresponsible are just okay, then you should already know what to do. If you don’t want to spend your life with someone who will keep hurting you emotionally, mentally, and physically, do not marry a fool.
12. He will bring you closer to God.
“I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord. – Hosea 2:19-20 (NIV)
Finally, if you want to have a family that is blessed by your God, find a man who will not take you away from Him. If you believe in God, who is a God of love, justice, compassion, and righteousness, then you have to marry a man who will inspire you to practice those virtues.
The final decision is yours.
Remember that what I listed above are only signs. It doesn’t mean that if the man you love doesn’t have a perfect score, you already have to dump him. Of course every person has the potential to change for the better, especially if he is humble, sincere, and determined. However, it’s always wise to make a discreet decision if you don’t like to have regrets in the future. Choosing a husband is by allowing God to lead you. He can’t mislead you. Shalom.

God’s purpose and destiny
When Jesus left He gave us a helper which is the Holy Spirit to guide all our ways, so we will never depend on our own decisions to get lost or make the wrong decisions, from my experience as a Christian I will always wait patiently for an answer rather than make a bad decision, and so far until today, whatever the devil throw at me, I will never be tempted to make a wrong decision to fulfill my destiny.
As Eve was taken out of a rib of Adam, nobody in the entire world will fit like a glove for your companion, wait patiently and God will fulfill all things at the right time.
Do not look for instant gratification as the ways of the world will never last. Look for the destiny of Heaven that will last forever, beyond the ends of the Earth.
Nothing in this world matters to me as I live for the heart of my God and the destiny of Heaven.
“I take care of him. When he’s happy, I’m happy,” says Stella. Merle replies, “I’m happy when she’s around.” Merle and Stella have been married for 79 years. When Merle was recently admitted to a nursing home, he was miserable—so Stella gladly brought him home. He’s 101, and she’s 95. Though she needs a walker to get around, she lovingly does what she can for her husband, such as preparing the food he likes. But she couldn’t do it on her own. Grandchildren and neighbors help with the things Stella can’t manage.
Stella and Merle’s life together is an example of Genesis 2, where God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him” (v. 18). None of the creatures God brought before Adam fit that description. Only in Eve, made from the rib of Adam, did Adam find a suitable helper and companion (vv. 19–24).
Eve was the perfect companion for Adam, and through them God instituted marriage. This wasn’t only for the mutual aid of individuals but also to begin a family and to care for creation, which includes other people (1:28). From that first family came a community so that, whether married or single, old or young, none of us would be alone. As a community, God has given us the privilege of sharing “each other’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2).

So it will be like this in the End Times, the devil knows his time is up, and all christians will walk the same path I walk, to train you for spiritual warfare, to built up your Faith, and only depend on God.
